What Starnook is

Starnook is an information service. We list places to stay across the UK and publish information about how dark the night sky is above them, using the Bortle scale and related measures. We are only a directory and a guide.

We are not part of your booking

We do not take bookings, handle payments, or act as an agent for any property. When you book a stay, your contract is directly with the property owner or their booking provider. Starnook is not a party to that contract and has no responsibility for it. Any questions about availability, prices, payment, cancellation, refunds, or the stay itself are between you and the owner.

Dark-sky ratings

We publish Bortle ratings and related information in good faith, based on measurements, certification, or modelling from light-pollution data, and we say which of these applies for each listing. The night sky is affected by weather, the moon, the season, and local conditions on any given night. Ratings describe a place’s typical darkness. They are not a promise of what you will see, and we can’t guarantee them. If you think something is wrong, tell us and we’ll look into it.

Accuracy of listings

We try to keep listings accurate and up to date, but details are often supplied by owners and can change. We don’t warrant that any information on the site is complete, current, or error-free. Always confirm the important details with the owner before you book.

Using the site

You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial use. You agree not to misuse it. For example, please don’t try to disrupt it, scrape it at scale, or copy its content for a competing service. The site’s design, text, and branding belong to us or our licensors and may not be reproduced without permission.

Links to other sites

The site links to owners’ websites and other third parties. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, their terms, or anything you do on them.

Our liability

The site is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we exclude liability for any loss arising from your use of the site or your reliance on information published on it, including anything to do with a stay you book. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
