Eryri (Snowdonia) Dark Sky Reserve

Snowdonia — Eryri in Welsh — was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve in 2015 and is the darkest national park in Wales. Its dramatic mountain topography can hem in horizons from valley floors, but elevated sites and the coast around Barmouth open onto genuinely pristine skies.

Large tracts of central Eryri have almost no population, and the darkest areas reach Bortle 2. The flat western horizon over Cardigan Bay is ideal for catching planets low in the sky and the zodiacal light, while Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) and the Rhinogydd offer excellent inland observing.
