Overview
Primrose Cottage is a lovingly renovated two-bedroom cottage for four on the banks of the East Lyn river at Rockford, deep in the wooded heart of Exmoor. Inside, a wood burner warms the living room and a brand-new kitchen-diner comes fully equipped down to an espresso machine and wine fridge, with a walk-in shower and locally made art throughout. The riverside front garden is a peaceful spot to sit with the sound of the water, watch for dippers and kingfishers, and chat to passing walkers. One dog is welcome, and the valley setting is about as away-from-it-all as Exmoor gets.

Stargazing guide
Rockford sits in one of the darkest parts of the Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve, and Primrose Cottage is an accredited Dark Sky Friendly base for exploring it. The cottage lies deep in the wooded East Lyn valley, so the best stargazing is a short walk up onto the open moor above, where the horizon opens out and the Milky Way appears in full on clear, moonless nights. With no mobile signal and almost no artificial light in the valley, the darkness here is the real thing.
